Memory Care

Memory Care is a distinct form of of long term care for individuals with Alzheimer’s, dementia, and other memory care issues.  These units are designed to meet the specific needs of person with the diagnosis.  Memory care units are typically staffed by trained professional with specific training in Alzheimer’s and Dementia.  Many of these communities reside within assisted living buildings.  They offer many activities that help the resident live safely in their environment and maximize their function.

Independent Living

Many retirement communities offer seniors with additional services: basic housekeeping, laundry services, transportation, social activities, and many other basic living services.  However, they are unable to provide nursing services, medication management, and assistance with activities of daily living. Some independent living facilities are located within “continuing care” communities with access to assisted living and memory care communities.  Many independent living communities offer amenities like pools, spas, clubhouses, and on-site beauty and barber salons.

Assisted Living

Like independent living communities they offer the basic services with additional services; supervision and/or assistance with activities of daily livings (ADL’s), assist in coordination of services by outside healthcare providers, and monitoring of resident activities to help ensure their health, safety and well-being.  Assistance can also include the administration or supervision of medications and personal care services.  They offer many of the same amenities as independent living communities and can be part of “continuing care” communities.
